“Oh Fuck, Company’s Coming!” Chocolate Cake

Sorry for the profanity in the title. It just seems appropriate.

Imagine the scene. You’re having a lie in one Saturday morning, when you get a text from your Mum who had left earlier to go to town with her gay friend. “J’s coming in for dinner later, can you please make something for dessert?”

So I did. Without even bothering to get dressed. (Too much information?)

“Oh Fuck, Company’s Coming!” Chocolate Cake

The idea of putting Nutella on top of this came from a recipe from Ree Drummond aka The Pioneer Woman.

175g butter, softened in the microwave
175g caster sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
150g self raising flour
25g cocoa powder
Nutella to spread on top
Chocolate buttons to decorate

Preheat the oven to 170c/fan 150c/gas 3. Prepare a 900g loaf tin.

Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla. Fold in the flour and cocoa.

Spoon the mixture into the tin, and bake for about 50 minutes (during which time you can shower and get ready for your guest). The cake is done when a skewer, inserted in the middle, comes out clean.

Allow to cool in the tin for fifteen minutes. Invert onto a wire rack, and allow to cool completely.

Once cool, spread the top with Nutella and decorate with chocolate buttons.

Serve, sliced, with coffee. And sigh an internal sigh that you managed to pull it off.

Mmmmm, that looks delicious! Can’t go wrong with chocolate cake!

    1. Exactly. Especially alongside an espresso or a glass of milk. 😉
